Ronald Lanier, a retired Corrections Officer for the state of New York City, was allegedly taken by Garden City Police and brutally beaten after mistaking him for a suspect.

The police, who were reportedly looking for a shoplifting suspect who had fled into one of the nearby stores, are supposedly known for their violent/racist past behavior.

Mr. Lanier claims the police handled him with little care, not listening to Mr. Lanier's attempts to state they had the wrong person, and proceeded to handcuff him. Once handcuffed, he was beaten senselessly. Mr. Lanier states the mistreatment only stopped after he pled with patrons in the store to record the incident. The police found the actual perpetrator 20 minutes later and offered Lanier no apology.

Other officers and people of service came forth during the press conference and spoke on their similar experiences, and how prevalent incidents like this actually are.

Above is a video of the full press conference.
