+My Life

Currently attending High Point University, I originate from Fayetteville, North Carolina, a moderate size city roughly two hours south of my University. It's hard to even say I originated from anywhere, as I've lived in over three different states (California, Kentucky, Hawaii, Arizona, and now my current state). This is largely due to my father being in the military for a little more than 26 years. Many ask me if it's been a nuisance to have moved so much, but I was fortunate to have a dad who (during my lifetime) was mostly stationed within the states. 

I have three older brothers, the oldest being 14 years older than me, and the youngest brother being 6 years older than me. Needless to say I was a privileged child. It has it's obvious perks but it also was a bit difficult, as at times it would feel like I was an only child. There was no one but my mom to relate to, no hand-me-downs to receive, and no one to really confide personal affairs with. This fact, plus the frequent moving, shaped me into being more social.

I dealt with my trials and tribulations, but I was always able to make friends. Often times, growing up, I hung out with the kids seen as weird, the ones who would have rather read books or caught frogs than play kickball. There was something about being able to make friends with people who otherwise had none and hear their perspectives on life. It made me want to relate to others and understand them better. I was used to being part of and standing up for the minority, not only in relation to race, gender, and sexuality, but to every aspect. From people who stole to be able to eat everyday, to people who ate dinners made by a staff of personal chefs in their home daily. From a family whose religion forbid them to show their skin, to a family who practiced wiccan spells under full moons scantily clad. I've experienced so many different cultures, yet my hunger steady grows. My goal in life is to educate myself and others on the vast diversity that life holds, not only to help myself grow as a person, but to help the world grow as a united people.
