The Beginning of Team Blue

A sunny day on a January morning — despite the previous nights tornado watch— began the first class of our First Year Seminar: Talking About Freedom. Our first Monday in the room, we were split into groups in which later we would hold mock trials. Despite the meek (and absent) team members that made up my group, I gained a little insight from these classmates that I would have otherwise never had known.

The first person to introduce them self, Michelle Jordan, moved from Cape Elizabeth, Maine to Sanford, NC before attending HPU. I knew her already as a friend of a friend already, although I doubt she remembers me. She's a freshman majoring in the study of Criminal Justice in hopes to eventually become a Juvenile Probation Officer. She's already been fortunate enough to work for two years with a Juvenile Community Corrections Officer (JCCO). In the meantime, she likes to spend her time hunting, four-wheeling, hiking, watching Netflix, or anything that involves her dog (who is her life).

The second person I got to know was Patrick Horn from Raleigh, NC. Strangely enough, Patrick already somehow already followed me on snapchat. Both of us didn't recall, but I digress. His life is sports. He's studying marketing with a minor in sports management and spends most of his free time just watching sports, especially hockey and football which are his favorites. He's traveled a good amount as well, (surprisingly for non-sports related reasons) having visited 11 separate states and 3 countries, yet has unfortunately lived in NC his whole life. Although he didn't give me definite career he wants to get into once he graduates, he hinted he wanted to be part of sport team management/ownership eventually. He plays intramural golf for HPU, and also plays golf on his own in his spare time.
